I have the Manfrotto 055 tripod and like it a lot. I really like the lever locks so when I bought a Monopod I got the B680 and like it even more.

I need a heavier more solid tripod than the 055 for table top work and longer lens, mine even though rated at I think 15 pounds vibrates pretty easily.

In the heavier tripod I'd like it to be metal like the B680, weight is not an issue but ease of use is. Also if it has a rock solid center column it would be a huge plus.

I've tried looking through BHPhoto and just get kind of lost.

My local store has a Gitzo that is very heavy metal but I don't like the twist legs and it's cumbersome to use which has me wishing for a center column but one that is also very heavy duty. Something you might put a view camera on.

I'm using an AcraTech ball head right now and is seems to be quite nice, otherwise I think I'll go for the large RRS ball head.

This is the only thing that I've come up with, the Manfrotto 161MK2B, kinda pricy @ $485 but heavy duty.

Here we go, answering my own questions again but I thought there might be someone else out there that want's something other than a lightweight tripod.

It's priced at $295 and looks to be very sturdy, rated to be able to handle 26.5 pounds which I translate into hopefully being pretty vibration free.

I have a Bogen / Manfrotto 3246 (replaced by the 028B. (external link))and Manfrotto 410 (external link) gear head. Very sturdy setup, for me.

I use the Bogen 3036 primarily for in-studio use with a 15 lb. 4x5 monorail and it is a very steady unit, similar to the aforementioned 3246, but with independently spreadable legs.

"Height, stability and versatily are all descriptive of this tripod. At a maximum height of almost 7 feet and a minimum of only 16 inches, it has the range to cover most assignments. Stability is enhanced by a unique Manfrotto telescopic mid-level bracing system that allows you to obtain different angles of spread for each leg. Rubber feet with retractable metal spiked feet and spirit level are standard features.
Material: Anodized Aluminum. For use in Still Photography and Video. Maximum Height with extended center column: 83.5 inches. Minimum Height: 16.6 inches. Closed Length: 33.1 inches. Maximum Load Capacity: 26.5 lbs. Weight:10 lbs Head Mount: 3/8"" threaded mount."

Based upon my experiences with the 3036 I would not hesitate a serious look at the 028B.
