Here are a few from my older sons game last night. They are not as great as some of the others you see here, I just don't have the nighttime setup. But these are the ones I happened to save.

All were taken with 40D, 70-200mm F/4 lens, 430ex, iso 3200, F/4, various shutter speeds
I have no idea how to use the flash. I tried to not use it at all but even at 3200 my ss was falling to like 60.

AI Servo , center focus point

CC always welcome....if you can give me any tips on what to change or try with my setup it would be greatly appreciated.

-of course we didn't get the call,

Not bad. For setup try 800 ISO, max sync speed for camera and flash which should be a shutter of 250 on the 40D. Use manual on your flash with a setting of 1/4 or so. Watch your LCD and adjust your flash + and - as needed.

Thanks Dan. I have no idea how to use a flash, I have only had it on the camera twice.
I have a lot of reading to do!

Also it will help to have your flash on a bracket to try to get rid of the red and demon eyes.
This is what I use. I've since customized it a bit to get the flash higher.

Nice crack at it.. only comment is you may want to back off the NR a tad. The grass is completely wiped out and the boys skin has gone too smooth. A little noise isn't a bad thing, particularly when the cost of getting rid of it is detail in the shot. Otherwise, good go of it.

Dan, what kind of bracket is that?

I tried my RRS wedding pro bracket this Friday along with Better Beamer but the flash was not high enough above the lens so got dreaded demon eyes. I have 300mm f2.8 so would prefer something which can mount to the lens not the camera.

It is a Stroboframe Pro SQ. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …0_705_Bracket_Pro_SQ.html (external link)

I'll get some pictures of it since I've customized it.
