I got this quite cheap on ebay but it claims to transmit almost 100% of light and it's very slim. Is this known to be a good filter, in comparison to say the B+W MRC filters?

Their weakness is that A) they can be difficult to clean, and B) they scratch fairly easily. I have a B+W UV filter too, and while it seems slightly better built, and is easier to clean, I have noticed no image quality differences between the two. The Hoyas are generally more affordable. Good gear does not make great photos, you and your vision do, the gear just helps a bit.
