ST-E2 = no manual controls... pain in the butt when you want to get into fancy flash work. Changing ratios still doesn't help much when the camera's got no idea as to what look you're actually going for... I wish they'd bring out an ST-E3 which allowed manual control. Oh, and A:B C like the 580 does rather than just A:B.

Echoed for an awesome idea.

And considering the ST-E2 is an ancient device released what - over ten years ago? ...

ST-E3 would be nice. Although I do like my Pocket Wizards for reliability and control over all of the settings manually. It would be nice to be able to adjust ratios remotely though.

I find that Canon's optical triggering system works great indoors - I've used it for many shoots and had a 100% success rate so far, though I've always been careful to set everything up so that it's most likely to work. Outside.... haven't yet tried it. Most of the stuff I do is indoors or at night anyhow at the moment so I'm not feeling the need for the radiopoppers.

I'm pretty deadset on having remote control of my ratios, however.... it's a heck of a luxury. There's the absolute minimum of interruption to the flow of the shoot, no walking over to a light stand, winding it down, changing the ratio, winding back up, going back to shooting.... while it's something you can work with with practice and not lose the mood it's easier not having to worry about it :D

Huh... haven't seen that type before. Interesting!

Not to sound like a gear post because i no longer have any interest in the STE2 type trigger for now:

I thought with the 430EX II we would see an STE2 mkII with the updated weather sealing, newer foot lock system, better read display and user interface... maybe PMA in febuary?

It sure would be nice. Not like it would be a hard update, either..at least not as far as the new foot and weather sealing goes. :p

tbh that doesn't interest me at all... doesn't increase functionality of the unit hardly at all. I'd be happy if ithad the controls of a 580EX re: wireless stuff if it had a cardboard foot!

I still don't even know what exactly the tags do... can other people search on tags to find your stuff?

If they're public, yeah.... they're bloody useful for yourself when you have 6,000+ photos online and are looking for something you shot a couple of yearse ago, let me tell you :p
