There are a few similar tricks at the one where Im going for mine. But I have heard them all from my friends when they did their tests and know where the examiner will try and get me. Well lucky you.. g'luck! photobitz wrote in post #6714841 Sneaky buggers. Yep, I was so surprised when they told me I got 94% for the actual test but also admitted an instant fail offence. Bloody hell! Col | Flickr

I'm planning on starting out my strobist adventures once my exams are finished in a few days, so I'm a pretty big n00b to all of this. Where should I buy my first strobist kit? I've already got two flashes (580EX and 430EX), so I'm planning on using the 430EX as a slave. All I really need is: - an umbrella - a stand - I guess a clamp thingy which goes on the stand that holds the umbrella and mounts the flash? Should I be looking on eBay? I also thought about just using my tripod as the stand, since then that can double as, well.. a tripod too when I'm out shooting. The flash can then simply attach to the tripod via the plastic base, but then I'm not too sure how to attach the umbrella? Anyone? ![]() I recommend the Lumopro LP632 umbrella swivels over the standard ones.... much more compact, puts the light much closer to the center of the umbrella and it hasn't got all the annoyingly large handles of the standard ones. Also, the Manfrotto 001b Nano stands are a nice, compact stand that goes to 6 or 7 ft. Welby wrote in post #6716220 So anyone got any tips for shooting a year 10 formal? I've got one to do next week. Not directly for the school though. Be prepared to deal with plenty of mum's with their P&S's in everyone of your shot. Watch backgrounds to try and avoid bystanders in them. And don't put up with rubbish from the paid-pro when he tells you that you are not allowed to take photos of the kids, when clearly all the mothers are taking photos at the time. Oh, and good luck! So this is what i have to look forward too tomorrow at my sisters pre-formal party, lol! hope i make it there on time, it starts at 4:30. Im thinking 24-70 with 580EX bounced with index card since i will be solo ( i cant imagine my mum runnning around with an umbrella, haha) i might bring 100mm maco for some portraits. 70-200 might be a bit over the top so i may leave it in the car.
