I'm supposed to be heading up to Byron tomorrow for a few days. Are the blue/green spots on the map going to be awful?

it'll be gone by tomorrow i suspect.

from left to right ont he bar is light -> moderate -> heavy.

So the lighter colours is lighter rain.... bear in mind that this is ONLY rainfall.

Dan, have you used a tamron 17-50 before?
Do you think there would be a clear difference between that and your 17-35L?

Nah, haven't used a Tamron but from results that have been posted I would say the tammy is sharper. Sharpness doesn't bother me so much these days... Not on WAs anyway. I prefer the build, quiet AF, tidy distance scale and big red ring of the L :)

Just got back from my shoot with Andrew, all went well, if not running over time  Glad all 4 lights worked well except for us not noticing that the background light was pointed at the ground on the first 100 subjects... Not my fault

All very valid points. Hmm.. just too many Lenses to want and not if not money to go around.
In addition, there was a 85 1.8 going on the flickr photography sales.

That sold a while ago though didn't it? Well, I'll be along to the strobist meet in January so I'll bring a 17-35 with me then and you can have a go.

There is another one that has come on to the scene. Mullet God - another fellow gong person. As much as i want one to play with, i don't think i take that many portraits. All my friends are stupidly camera shy!

Ah kewl... didn't know he'd joined in there. Lucky's an interesting character as you can tell from his photostream.

Don't know if it's just me but <35mm doesnt really sing portrait lens... Mine is generally used for landcapes and occasionally group shots at kid's birthdays parties etc. where you need to fit a lot in but don't have a lot ofspace for foot-zoom.

Lol, last year it went much later. One of the bulbs in the worklights broke, so we had to wait for the father (of the cadets) who owned them to get a replacement. But yeah, I expected it to run past 9:30... I just didn't think the staff would take that long to get their act together and be photographed.

And "meh" for the background light :p They won't know the difference ;)

Hahahah... not quite.

I just shoot them in the afternoon when they are settling down for the night and less active. Once the sun sets, they're pretty much asleep so you can even get close enough to touch them without them flying away.

Little grass butterflies like this are relatively easy to find camped out... the big ones camp out at the tops of trees though so it's prety much daytime-only shooting with them.
