it kinda defacto good practice to make www.domain.com (external link) = domain.com, but in the end, it doesn't need to, and there are plenty of people who don't.

Like you say, it's defacto good practice and is pretty much expected these days, almost to the point where to do anything else is regarded as bad..certainly for a company of any size (are you listening BoM ?).

Hahahah... not quite.

I just shoot them in the afternoon when they are settling down for the night and less active. Once the sun sets, they're pretty much asleep so you can even get close enough to touch them without them flying away.

Little grass butterflies like this are relatively easy to find camped out... the big ones camp out at the tops of trees though so it's prety much daytime-only shooting with them.

Noted, will head out a little later than usual next time.

I will be in Sydney (city) tonight for anyone who is interested in an impromptu meet for night-time cityscapes or whatever. If no takers, I'll probably just end up going out to dinner with my colleagues as usual.

Sorry bud, will be working til half 12 tonight.

nah... depends on how people want to utilise their domain really....

it kinda defacto good practice to make www.domain.com (external link) = domain.com, but in the end, it doesn't need to, and there are plenty of people who don't.

www. is just the web subdomain... same as ftp. is the defacto ftp subdomain which in essence can point to anywhere and different to where the domain points.

Note to self - Any network/server questions, post in Oz POTN!

DAdeGroot wrote in post #6720817 (external link)
It's traditional. In the beginning, it was decided that services on domains could be run on different boxes, so you'd have ftp.domain.com, www.domain.com (external link), gopher.domain.com, wais.domain.com and all could be on physically different machines ('cause virtual machines weren't really heard of then). Thus domain.com on it's own made no sense (which machine should it point to?).

This has carried on, despite the default action for a domain to be http. However, some (a growing number) of web admins now point domain.com and www.domain.com (external link) at the same place.

I know a guy who works in BoM and it has been discussed a number of times, but nothing has happened.

Yeah, it is a bit soft. I think the lens may even have been on manual at that point, so I'm lucky it's as good as it is

1/4 CTO should do for most instances. Maybe an 1/8th if you don't want it too warm. (Assuming Daylight White balance)

Don't think it's the lens, I have the same problem tracking on-coming objects with my 400D.

I have my AI-Servo on the * button and for sport, I just use the centre AF point, so that could be my problem too, in that in that shot, the centre point is on the sand between the two.

I did notice after a few shots though, that the lens was on MF after I had taken some shots the day before :o.

Flashed Blue look?
Is wocka referring to how it's ghastly white?

I'm supposed to be heading up to Byron tomorrow for a few days. Are the blue/green spots on the map going to be awful?

Enjoy the vomiting schoolies!
