Some people say the 40D has 1D-like AF.

It is very good AF for the money, but the keeper rate isn't nearly as high as the 1D IMO. I doubt the 50D is *that* much better.

I'm waiting for the new stuff to be released...I'll bet the new ones are just going to be the bees-knees and we'll all have to junk our existing stuff and upgrade :D :D :D

Either those people have just bought the camera (and don't have a 1DmkIII to compare it with) so everything it does is perfect, or they've been out partying with Ben Cousins.

I've got a 1DmkIII and a 40D sitting a metre away, and no way is the 40D in the same league as the 1D. I've had the 1D for over a month now, taken thousands upon thousands of frames, and STILL get kinda amazed when using the AF on the 1D.

It is very good AF for the money, but the keeper rate isn't nearly as high as the 1D IMO. I doubt the 50D is *that* much better.

+1.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

But, but, but I WANT it! :D

Then again, POTN and the net would so quiet if people couldn't continue to **** about how a company didn't do the updates they *should* have done :p

And you'd go with a 1D series before the new 5D II? How come?

Haha ... Humans in general love to rant about things that they can't have. It's in our nature.
If i had a choice i'd pick the 1Ds over the 5D for the reason that you can shoot in any conditions that you encounter, it's what its built for! Sport / Wedding / Shooting whilst Bungee Jumping etc etc

How's your 50D going? I bet you, the 50D and that 10-22 are having looooots of fun lately. ;)

I've found that i pretty much shoot at sRAW1 about 96% of the time. Most of my shots are only for online publication in which 800- 1600px is more than enough. I havent noticed any noise binning either whilst using it in that format. Maybe shoot Chuck Westfall (external link) a question as to whether pixel binning is used in the xxD series. Not guarantee he will answer though :P

10-22 probably has been sitting on the camera far more than any lens of late. I love UW for the fact that i can just use it in most situations to capture the frame.
I just started a 52 week self portrait project actually. With the 10-22 only about a metre away from me, i was able to capture a full body capture. Awesome!

Me neither (and I wouldn't expect so given the price-tag of the 1D III), but I'm just following the words of owners of both.

QUOTED IMAGE

Nice shot Warren. Whadda you know though, I just started one too. Something about being bombarded by self-portraits of AlaS everyday in the 17-55 thread for over 2 months..

I thought about 365, but I'm too lazy for that.

Here's one testing out my strobist kit from Dragon Image:

Quick photography related question here...

I bought Clarence's Cactus triggers (Got 'em yesterday thanks mate), on the gadget infinity site it says they're compatible with the older 540ez flashes. It's to my understanding the the 540ez's don't work on digital EOS cameras, however, if I had it as an off camera strobe with the 400D triggered by the VS2, would it fire?
