Quick photography related question here...

I bought Clarence's Cactus triggers (Got 'em yesterday thanks mate), on the gadget infinity site it says they're compatible with the older 540ez flashes. It's to my understanding the the 540ez's don't work on digital EOS cameras, however, if I had it as an off camera strobe with the 400D triggered by the VS2, would it fire?

Yes, it would fire as a manual only strobe.

Oh, wait, do you mean the triggers say they aren't compatible, if so they probably won't....

Triggers are compatible with the older units, however the older units aren't compatible with the EOS digital range.

Cheers for the info, I suspected as much.

Yeah, then it should work IIRC what it means by the older flashes not being compatible with eos digital is the lack of digital ttl

Well said Mick and great Ben Cousins reference!

Well, I'm going to spend the year (or at least part of it :-) writing about him, but can't say things like that :-)

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

It'll work, it triggers it with a hard contact on the hotshoe and not with E-TTL. There might be a variation with the trigger voltage though, but it shouldn't matter.

Luke, back off a bit with the non-photography-related comments. You don't have to contribute on here if you don't want to, it's a general chat thread and there are dedicate forums if one is after a specific targeted question. It's better this turns into a small community than just a camera- and photography-specific forum - I've met a few nice people who I would not hesitate in calling friends in real life from here. It's sad, I know, but such is life.

Yes indeed :-)

Got a heap of shots of him at his first training session, so we've got a few in the image library for the preseason.

I was trying to refrain from ranting, but now that you've started it ... :p

I'm not sure that pages upon pages of gadgetry discussions are that helpful with community-building. Pages of speedtest.net results are pretty overrated too.

I don't always have time to hang out here, but whenever I have in recent times I've found the endless fluff that has zero to do with what we all have in common - love of photography - has too often drowned out the photos. And I think that sucks.

</rant>

There's a heap of other sub-forums just on this board for pure gear/photo discussions, this isn't the only one.
