I am torn between these two set ups for about the same price, one new, one hardly used, Lastolite 400 triple head kit or Elinchrom style 400bx twin head kit, I need some knowledgeable help here but its the extra lastolite head thats got me in a quandry. Anybody help me out ASAP ? ???

It just depends on your goals for photography...

Personally, I think that Lastolite's strength lies in making accessories like backgrounds, reflectors etc. I own their trilite and some other reflectors. Lastolite lighting kits are nice but very basic. They are designed mostly for small studio portrait or small tabletop product type of work...so that makes them limited in many ways

There are few limits to Elinchrom. Once a photographer invests in an Elinchrom system then the sky is the limit. Their swiss lineup is large enough to light just about any still photographic scene imaginable.

Both brands are great...just depends on your goals. If you are a hobbyist or a semi-professional just having fun than the lastolite would be great. If you are an aspiring professional that wants to make an investment in a system that will grow over time...then Elinchrom might be a better choice.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

What he said! :) Elinchrom is an old hand at this, and lighting is what they do well. Lastolite do backgrounds and accessories well. I would not buy an Elinchrom digital SLR if they came out with one. Does that make sense? :)
