I have been looking at the various belt systems and none of them really tripped my trigger. They are bulky and expensive, once you start adding in pouches etc.

Flashed back to my Army days and got to thinking, so I stopped by my local army surplus and picked up some black LCE gear.

Belt, suspenders, pouches (except for the one green one and one small pocket camera pouch) all ran me about $60.00

(Forgive the pics, my wife agreed to model it if I didn't show her face.. LOL )

The rear view shows 2 small pouches just big enough for a small prime w/hood. The mem card pouch was left over from years ago, it is a compass pouch and large enough for a mem card wallet and a notebook. The small black pouch to the right of the canteen is left over from something or other and holds 4 camera batteries, 2 spares for each body. The Misc pouch next to it is patterned after an M16 ammo pouch and holds AAA batteries, pocket rocket, lens pen, spare caps etc etc. It has 2 snap loops that are perfect for holding my monopod.

Front shows the longer pouches, on is perfect for my flash and the other fits my 70-200 F/4L with hood.

LCE H-harness. I used a spare QD and attached the lower half of my POTN strap to the harness. That way, I can have it where I need it and have my other body with a long lens on a cross-chest Quick sling.

My cross-chest quick sling (not pictured) is made from a nice leather guitar strap and a nylon strap. It has a j-hook that slides freely and attaches to the camera at the tripod mount screw. The camera attachment slides freely up the strap so I can let it hang at my hip when not in use and it comes up easy to my eye when needed. Right now, I am using a cheapy hood, but I ordered a special made unit from Black Rapid. I got the idea from THIS thread.

The Quick sling is very much along the same lines as this one http://www.blackrapid.com/rs1.php (external link) Just cheaper (I am all about cheap)

Total cost was $37 and that includes the fastener and connecter from the company above.

All in all, I can carry just about everything I need for an event, parade, day in the field.
