This is my first time posting in this section. I eventually want to use photography as a side job to bring in some extra income some day. These were some practice shots on my sister and one of her friends. CC is very welcome. And please let me know if I did anything wrong with the image sizes and I will fix them.

I am sure you know this, but watch your limbs. # 2 could have been STELLAR if the framing was better. Also, remember to give subject wiggle room in the frame for 8x10 formats. ;)

nice stuff. I like how you're moving around getting different compositions. I think the second photo you could do on a lower level. like on the second try shooting up at her, it will help get rid of some of that bg. just some thoughts of mine from first glance :-) keep up the work. would like to see more :-)

Thanks alot. I realized the legs were cut off, but these were taken at a puplic park and there was a huge obnoxious pole that i was practically sitting on to take this one. Any farther back, and it would have been in the frame. I will work on it though!

Thanks. I am trying to create my own style that kinda strays away from some of the traditional style shooting. Thanks for the compliments. Ill be sure to post up some more once i actually get a gig.

Please keep the comments coming!

Lot's of emotion shown in the pics. Regardless of what we (photographers) may think this is often more important than the details to the customer/subject. So in that reguard, capturing the spontaneity of the moment and the priceless expressions you have done this very well.

Thanks alot! I started thinking the same thing after looking over them again. I appreciate the kind words.

I have a question regarding a portrait lens selection that im going to be making someday. I have a few senior shoots lined up over this season and an engagement session. I need a better zoom lens than my 75-300, its just soft plain and simple. I am looking at the 70-200 L F4. However, I dont have the cash to spring 600 on a lens, so im thinking of renting for the shoots. Is the 70-200 F4 an adequate portrait lens?

Yes! As long as that focal length is what you need, can you rent a 70-200 2.8? I'm quite happy with my 85 1.8 but it is a bit more difficult to use than the zoom. The 70-200 Canon is one of the more popular portrait lenses especially the (IS) Image Stabilizer models.

Well i would do that, but I am going to buy the F4 non IS version once i save up a little dough. So i figured I would want to practice and try out the version i wanted to buy as opposed to getting my hopes up on the 2.8 and IS and then be let down when i dont have enough money. Hope that makes sence.

Contrast is way too much. You're losing details in her hair and eyes.

I think you chose some nice locations and some fine poses. That being said, I think these shots could be improved by using a custom white balance to rid the subject of the orange tint to her skin. As the above poster pointed out, these shots also appear to have too much contrast. You seem to have a good eye for composition. Keep up the good work.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

I did a less agressive contrast version with a cloudy white balance setting in dpp. How does it look?

Nice shots, lots of emotion. They look a bit over-saturated to me. Also the necklace dangling in #4 is distracting. I find myself looking at it, rather than her face.

Number 4 is my favorite. You don't know what she's laughing at, but you almost want to laugh with her.

Well if you really want to know, she kept trying to make a serious face type pose, and she couldnt do it. I had to stop a couple of times simply because her laughter was contagious.
