This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #119".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Wednesday, October 15th at 9:00 pm (PST)

This picture was taken @ about 13,000 feet, on the way to the summit of Mt. Whitney (highest peak in contiguous 48 states). I know there's lot's of potential with this picture, so let's see what you guys can do!!!

Here's what I did...

- Cropped
- In levels adj layer moved black point in to darken the shadows
- Small curves adjustment to bump the contrast some
- In LAB mode, steepened the A and B channels (sorry, can't remember exact adjustment for each) to bring out the colors in the rocks and sand.
- Noise Ninja on the sky since it got a little specked from the last move
- 75-1-10 USM on LAB L channel. Then masked the whole thing out then used a 25% opacity brush to reveal some edges to try to give the illusion of more depth.

layer focusing on a different shade.
Dodge and burn.....
Ran thru HDR again for de-haze only
Dodge and burn.....
add reflection in water and tried to create a bit more detail w\trees in valleys.
layered sky and smoothed it out w\levels
Took Ibuprofin for neck and hands :-)

Hey guys,

Let me know if this violates copyright. I found the picture on http://www.art.eonworks.com …tal_space_art-200801.html (external link).

Copied picture.
Used soft eraser to blend it with the image.
Changed color balance of original image.
And cloned out something in the background.
Used a mask on the man standing there to bring back some of the original color.
Resized.

Here is a link until I know if this violates copyright.
*Removed*

Will look for a similar picture that isn't copyrighted.

^^ Unfortunately, it would. They aren't going to hunt you down for using it this way, though. Easiest way to be safe though is to limit yourself to images you can use - like searching via creative commons (firefox has this as a search engine). http://search.creativecommons.org/?q=saturn# (external link) (click on Flickr if it's not already) -- returns similar, safe images :)

Here's my attempt:

Cropped and flipped horizontally, selected and lightened dark shadows (with Curves), a little contrast and 20% sharpening.

Love this pic, Silver!! What a fantastic shot.

My edit:

I lightened shadows a bit using curves

Cropped

added a gaussian blur

Desaturated

Added a dark blue gradient to the sky

Added a vignette around the hiker

Made canvas larger than the photo and added a fill layer of texture and color to it. Added a 3 px stroke around top of pic.

added stamps and lettering.

put a 1px stroke around outside of entire image to make for easier forum viewing. ;)

Cut and pasted all the planets using different cutting techniques and feathered at 3px...Pen tool and Eliptical Marquee tool.
Change the color balance of the original image and some of the planets.
Resized some of the planets with free transform tool.
Used mask to bring back some of the image with a soft brush and to blend the image better.
Cropped.
