When a butterfly emerges does the caterpillar cease to exist?

Wow Chuck, that is deep. Could be just the process of life. Only instead of getting old and passing on the butterfly is the afterlife of the caterpillar. Great shot Jon.

Very nice shot and great timing, and no, the caterpillar is still there. Think of it this way, when you grow old, does the child you were cease to exist? My wife has answered this for me almost daily. I hear ”you’re acting like a child” all the time so clearly my child still exists and is noticeable by others. ;):)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Nice catch! Be careful that you don't "catch the bug" & start trying to get more like that!Although it might be good therapy for some people! :D

To funny Frank. I think it's to late and Jon is hooked. I went as far as to put a butterfly garden in my yard. I have these guys all over the place as well as other types of cool looking butterflys, bees and some birds!

I think the caterpillar just drinks a red bull.

The caterpillar has just had plastic surgery; is still the same bug underneath ;)
Nice capture; don't think I've seen a butterfly caught in-flight before, actually.
