It is a back up to my back up body. I have 5 bodies and the 40D has seen very little use. I might have 2K on it--- I would like to get $725 for mine. Scott

It’s so hard to say as there are 27k easy and cared for shots and there are 27k hard and pounded in tent stakes shots. The price seems to be in line with other used cameras so assuming that it has been taken care of and the rest of the camera is in decent shape, you have a 50%/50% chance of getting 73,000 more shots from it before the shutter fails. Of course, that’s MTBF and it can fail earlier or later, but that the risk everyone takes whether new or not. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

What is the cost to replace the shutter after 100,000 cycles? The cost is somewhere between $250~$350 from what I have heard. However, the way shutters are rated, Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) doesn’t mean that at 100k it’s going to break. You have a 50%/50% chance of reaching 100k, that is ½ of all cameras will fail before 100k and the other ½ will fail after 100k. There is no way to tell which you have. It’s a risk everyone takes. Not sure why, but call me JJ.
