They are back to being buddies again. But the rut is hard on them. Those boys in the second pic are thin and tired and may not make it through the winter..even though they are protected in the Rocky Mountain National Park and can't be hunted. Elk put a lot of effort in the procreation of their species and it takes a toll. But there is probably no better place to observe them than Estes Park..ask anybody who has played a round of golf there. Good work. John Wayne was right....
