Hey guys.. I know this wide-angle lens is discontinued now, but if I can pick one up used, would you guys suggest it?

I already have the (really good) kit lens that gives me 18-55mm but at f/3.5-5.6 with IS, so if I get this older wide-angle lens, I would gain the constant f/2.8 all the way through, get the L build quality (although reportedly poor weather sealing on this one).. and however, from reviews I've seen, I've heard it's soft on the wide angle end (17mm) at 2.8.

Do any of you guys have it and can give me some suggestions/reviews? Do you know which year this lens was discontinuted in. Lastly, should I just continue saving money and pick up the 16-35mm 2.8L lens instead?

if you are shooting on a crop sensor, there is no reason not to go with 17-55 IS. It will perform much better, has better range, and has IS. deduct 140 dollars from the cost, since you get to sell your 18-55 IS, and no more lens swapping.
As between the two, the weakness of 17-35 is more in the corners, which again is of not much consequence on a crop sensor. it will be softer than 17-55 though.
