Never thought it was this hard to find one.

I have a 055XPROB with a 488RC2. Total length is 30".

Looking for a (slightly) padded bag that won't break the bank. There doesn't seem to be much out there in tripod bags.

Any suggestions ?

When I had that combo I used the Bogen MBAG90P :LINK (external link)

Its about the best bag out there IMO and well worth the money.

Thanks....

I actually tried the unpadded, slightly shorter, version of this one and hated it. I brought it back yesterday after a day's use in the country. The rigid end "pancake" section seems to serve no purpose at all since it does not completely surround the top of the bag. It basically flopped around and made it somewhat awkward to carry on my shoulder. I'm not sure the padded version is any different ?

Unfortunately I can't find anyone locally that carries the padded one so I can't get to actually see/try it before I buy.

Look at the tripod bags available from Porter's (you can find them on the web).

I put a Bogen 3221 (precursor to the Manfrotton 055) in a Vivitar tripod bag I found at a parking lot clearance sale, and now I use that same bag for my Gitzo 2530.

Have you considered a Think Tank Bazooka bag?

The Think Tank looks interesting although a less rigid, slightly padded one is my ideal.... if I can't find anything "better" for me, the Think Tank looks like a good option.

I just ordered a Bazooka for the same set of legs and a RRS BH-55. Unfortunately, I won't be home for another two weeks to play with it, or I'd post pictures for you.

I would appreciate that... thanks. I noticed that the Bazooka extends to 30", which is exactly the length of my tripod with head attached. Sounds tight.

Hi,

I own a 190CXPro3 with 488R2 BH (Almost same setup as you).
Currently, I'm using Bazooka. Is quite good and well protected.
I like about this bag, is able to let you adjust the length according to your needs.
What I dont like is you can't change the carry strap and when you carry the bag is feel like the bag a bit off balance. Because the BH is top of the bag.

Other than that is quite a good bag and well protected.

I usually carry the Bazooka with the ballhead side down. It feels a bit more natural.

I would also think it would be more comfortable with the weight (head) on the bottom rather than on the top.

I felt the same too...
But I'm thinking of getting a solid and light BH, Felt 488RC2 is very heavy.

Yep, the 488 is a bit heavy. You might consider a Markins Q3 for the 190. Much lighter and sturdier.
