So, I've had the Canon Rebel Xti (400D) and loved it. I believe I've mastered it to my shooting style and get great pics especially with my lens selections. Even the coloring is just right.

I've decided to pursue more with photography after several requests to help with portfolios, do pictures of their cars (automotive photography) and the reactions of other photographers (either hating on my work, nosey, or very impressed).

I doing so with moving forward in this professional pursuit of photography services, I've decided to get a semi-pro/pro cam, the new 50d. I wanted something brand new, and not worry of it being replaced in 2months like when I go my XTi the XSi just came out. (i know I know, there will always be a newer version and 50d may not actually REPLACE the 40d but more of a sister. Its the same comparison of XTi vs XSi... more megapixels, faster fps, newer processor..etc)

Since, I've been shooting with the 50d (24-48hours now), I had to get used to where all the buttons were in addition to the expandble features over the XTi. I didn't realize I could use 640 ISO and some extras.

On my XTi, I have it set to Standard Picture Style and I always shoot in RAW format. I configured the 50d to do so, but the pictures are not coming out with the same coloring or saturation. It's almost ALMOST ALMOST as if the AWB is off. Some how, it seemed to have a slight blue tint, and with the 15MP, the pictures are sooo smooth (this is a plus and minus depending on your shooting style). This is appears to be my current problem.

I'm excited about all the features, but please don't tell me I ACTUALLY have to configure the White Balance features. I did notice that when red is in the pic, or another bright color like yellow, after taking the snap it comes out fine. But when it comes to grey and not so white colors in the pic it kinda seems too soft.

I'm shooting with a 2.8/f lens. Is there anything wrong with me? lol Do i need to get my eyes checked? I believe this is usually scene through the LCD display... is this maybe me getting used to the 920,000 dots over the previous 240,000? or do I simply need to just play around with the camera until I get used to certain features and experience with post processing.

My understanding is the in between ISO stops are done in software so you don't gain anything, but don't take that as fact.

If you shoot RAW you have to develop in DPP to get pictures styles. If you shoot JPG it's done in-camera. RAW is just the RAW data that hits the sensor, effectively unprocessed, pictures styles make no difference except to the embedded JPG.

AWB isn't accurate, use the presets, or change it later.

Not sure what you mean with your last paragraph, post an image to illustrate any problem.

Hope that helps :)

You use CS3, I assume you already updated it to the official ACR4.6? According to other members, even ACR4.6Beta isn't quite there yet when rendering 50D RAW. So, make sure you have the official ACR4.6.

You are refering to camera raw 4.6? Yes i did, because camera raw 4.5 won't work.

I also upgrade to LR2.1

Is your monitor calibrated. Do so, if it isn't.
Now proceed to get used to your new body.

Calibration has nothing to do with cameras, so long as it's being done semi-regularly that's fine.

Didn't mean to confuse you. Calibration is just step one.
