1) Their website states "Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery." Is that right? Lordy, that would be a long time to wait for a regularly available item.

2) I am trying to decide between a large softbox and one of the big UmbrellSoft ( http://www.amvona.com …p/flypage&product_id=2324 (external link) ) for product and portrait shots. Has anybody had experience with the UmbrelSoft-type modifiers? Are they similar to softboxes in diffusion?

Thanks.

Sounds about right for me too. I haven't ordered anything from them in a while though.

Trying to keep my money in my pockets these days.

Their in Mass and whenever I won an auction I got it pretty quickly.

That being said, I'm not overly thrilled with their backgrounds.

You get what you pay for...

If you're going to buy from Amvona then buy their ebay items rather than from their retail site. Prices are higher on the same items and you can save a bundle buying from them on ebay.

That being said, some of their items are better than others and some are just plain junk.

This statment is very true for Amvona.

They will have more... :)

Amvona has almost completely dropped out of the eBay auction circus except for backgrounds. Apart from backgrounds, everything is listed as "buy it now" with pricing that's identical to what you'd find on the Amvona site. For example, Amvona currently has 18 softboxes on eBay and every single one of them is a BIN. The glory days of Amvona bargains seems to be gone

Ahh I didn't know that. I was thinking of how it used to be and since my one very bad experience with a lightcstand and boom I chose not to do business with them again. I always found their products to be 'acceptable' at best, but not for me. I prefer to pay more for top notch quality that they don't (didn't) seem to offer.

Also, they use to have what seemed to be several humdred backgrounds up for auction at once.

Now, it's been greatly reduced.

Probably did it to get there name out there and established.

Now they probably save alot more money buy selling a lot more on their web site instead...

I think its called a recession. Im sure their sales have fallen drastically, with the lack in volume their prices must go up to stay in business.

I ordered one about two weeks ago, they charged my credit card immediately which I think is not right (however this is the second time I ordered out of stock item and this seems like their regular practice). End of last week I called them and they confirmed that it really takes 4-6 weeks to get it in stock and shipped. There is no sign of it being shipped yet.

That's common practice with many retailers. B&H has the same policy. If they are out of stock or the item has to be special ordered they do charge your credit card when the order is placed and then ship the item once it's received.

I thought there was a law that does not allow "vendors" (B&H, Amazon, Amvona, etc ...) to charge you until they have confirmation that product shipped - normally this is in form of a tracking number.

Or maybe this only apply to California vendors?
