While I am only using a 18-55 mm kit lens, I'm still pleased with the results. It definitely is a lot different than my S1 IS, that is for sure. Both shots were done with manual focus since that will be good practice for me. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be because I was also taking them hand held as well. Found it was easier to just set the camera, and then slowly move my body forward or backwards until it came into focus. Both were also done with natural light. The flash was just a little bit much. I cropped them both as well, since I don't have a true macro lens yet. Thanks for all of your inspirations!

By the way, this was the biggest hoverfly I've ever seen! It easily was close to an inch in length.

Very nice results Liz and glad to see your enjoying the camera. Once you do get that Macro Lens and being able to zoom in at 10x for focus using Live View on the LCD your going to get some stellar results.

Have Fun!

I finally broke down and read the manual on how to change the WB. Of course, it was right underneath my fingers! LOL However, it did make a difference. Can't wait to get a macro, but it will probably happen next spring. Most of the insects are going bye-bye anyway, as our temps have recently dropped to the mid to upper thirties. We actually had frost on Friday. Thanks for the camera! I just wish I'd had more time this past week to use it. Darn work! :p

The hoverfly was a pretty interesting fella. It was not really that shy at all, and landed on me several times. I really wanted to get a HIF, but when I would get close to focusing on it, it would take off and land about a foot away. I probably got about 20 shots of it, but getting the eyes in focus was my problem. I need to get back to the manual and read about the LiveView some more so I can zoom in.
