By the way how did you manage to keep the camera sand free?
If I were to take a camera to the top of Sleeping Bear, and I doubt I can make that steep climb ever again
, I wound wrap it in a plastic bag and seal it very tight, put it inside a tote and make the trek. Once on top I'd be very careful not to take it out if there is any wind, if there is any blowing sand, forget about it.
Take several shots, and reseal it in the plastic bag. Then I would walk down the dune instead of roll like I did as a kid.
I have taken my camera to the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, always in its own separate tote and keep it well covered, when not in use. When I'm shooting with it, I'm down by the water to avoid blowing sand.
One year, I was taking pictures of my SIL, she was in the water. A lady came up and asked if she wanted her to take a picture of the two of us...no...I'm not handing my gear over to you and walking waist deep into the ocean with no possible way to catch up to you should you take off...that was my thought, my words were, "Thanks for the offer, but; that is quite alright."

And that just sounds painful.
