A couple more from Friday....Just a question, do you fix the skin in ALL of your proofs? She has pretty rough skin and I think fixing it in 30 pictures is going to to be really time consuming.

I'd fix one or two of what you think are the best and tell her that the others can be treated similarly so she should pick what she likes.

Not sure on the LoMo - the system I'm seeing it on makes it look really blown out.

I generally fix the complexion in the very first proof and in any where I may apply actions. Advising the client, touch ups will be added to their final picks. I also ask them to let me know if too much retouching might have been applied to the examples and back off accordingly. I've had clients point out a gap in the buttons or lint that I may have missed also and will fix for the final prints.

And stealing your bridge pose, we have one very much like that one.:D

Tiff, I like the lomo action. I'm just an amateur, but I've got an opinion like everybody else here. For what it's worth, I wouldn't worry much about eliminating "imperfections" in portraits. I'd focus more on bringing out the client's personality and trying to capture that in my photos. I like the idea of photos that reveal rather than conceal, but I don't know if that would bring me any paying clients....:lol:

LOL....you are SO not a girl. ;) We like nice, pretty skin.

Thanks for the advice. The lomo looks pretty blown out to me too but I kind of liked it for some reason. Weird mood maybe.

Good to know on the proofs. I like the idea of presenting "perfection" but it's just not a smart idea time-wise.

And, steal away. To be honest, she just kind of sat down like that while I was fidgeting with settings and I told her to freeze! She really was a great girl...she never stopped smiling!

OK, I'm debating whether or not to submit shots to the POTN book. IF I should decide to do it, I'm curious to know how you brave souls go about the selection process with your shots? Did you submit the shots you knew were photographically correct (comp., exp., thirds, postcard quality) or did you submit the shots that touched your heart, but weren't necessarily textbook perfect? Or somewhere in between? Did you worry about submitting to all shares, or just the ones within your comfort zone?

Curious minds want to know....

I go through all my favorite shots and see which ones fit where. I actually will go searching for photos that will fit in shares that i don't normally shoot, but I don't usually find anything that fits that is good enough to submit.

AND YOU BETTER SUBMIT SOMETHING!

I got 2 emails today, from a brother and a mother of one of the coastguardsmen on the rescue. They told me that the photos touched them beyond measure. I was so moved by their letters. It made me feel better than any wedding shoot I've ever done.

that is SO awesome! Congratulations! < note restrained use of the !

It is here that, that after much consideration and debate, I must announce my official opposition to Permie for Prez. It is not that I do not support Permie's stance on most issues, respect her hard work and unmeasurable talent. It is a single issue that keeps me from throwing my full support behind her. I like the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Her strict exclusionary stance on the ! is punuctuationist and I can not endorse a candidate who does not embrace all punctuation!! It is not lightly or without heavy heart that I make this decision not to support Permie as I really think she would bring new ideas, respect, integrity, and good Mouse morals to the office. !

MEASURES

Measure 42

This measure will create a new governmental department called "Smilie Immigration Reform". The Director of SIR will be nominated by the President and will be appointed by a majority vote of eligible voters of the Lounge.
  • ___ Yes, create this Department
  • X___ No, don't create this Department because I'm a low down Smilie bigot.

Measure 1,248

Under this measure, Jamie will cease talking about his grooming habits.
  • _XXX__ Yes, please, Dear God, please yes.
  • ___ No, because it upsets Jenn so.

Measure ß

This will create a governmental oversight committee that will regulate Zane's fiery matchstick head. It will measure the BTU output and set parameters on how much candle-watt power he can emit on any given hour.
  • ____ Yes, because this kind of Big Brother Activity warms my anally retentive heart.
  • __X__ No. Geez, who thinks this stuff up?

Measure Q

This measure will change the name of the nation "Uzbekistan" to be "Larry" because Larry is so much easier to say and spell.
  • ____ Yes, and, while you're at it, do something about Massachesetts or Connecticut.
  • ___X_ No. Just no. I'm plainly disagreeable.

Measure Grady Blinkblatz

This measure will allow legal citizens of the Lounge to openly confess that they think that the Eagles of the '70's sound more and more like Country Western music as time goes on.
  • ____ Yes. Desperado? C'mon.
  • __X__ No. Rock legends, and I'm in denial.

Measure *

This measure will grant the president of the Lounge the ability, without oversight, to bring her husband a beer whenever the urge hits.
  • ____ Yes, dang, that man needs a beer.
  • __X__ No, it should be expanded to included Starbucks and the occasional Tequila Sunrise.

Measure f/2.8

The voting in of this measure will end the ongoing debate over the annunciation of the word "bokeh" to be BOE-kah.
  • __X__ Yes, let's just end this.
  • ____ No, because I'm argumentative and fundamentally wrong.

LOVED the ballot, Dan! Made me ROFL.

Well, today got off to a blazing start this morning. I turned on my desktop computer and it booted up fine. After reading my mail and doing a couple of other things, I decided to uninstall something I downloaded the other day when my keyboard was acting up. Right after I clicked on it, I got some kind of hardware error and the computer went into a boot cycle. This has happened in the past but the computer always rebooted fine. This time it didn't. It gets to the blue screen that says "Windows XP" and just stops. It won't go any further. I hope the HD isn't gone...

I'm sure glad my photos are all on the external HD, but there are some things on the internal drive that I'd like to keep.

That sucks John....hope it gets fixed.
