I've been using it recently (as a Plugin within CS3) and its fantastic. Turning mundane indoor shots into interesting looking vintage shots is awesome.

Here's an example...

Some of the saved settings are a little over the top, so there's a bit required tweaking. Even then, some of these filters would require lots of layers, various blending and curve tweaks just to achieve in Photoshop... its very helpful.

The example that you have posted doesn't do much for me. In all honesty what you have shown could be done natively in photoshop in a couple of steps. I have never used any of the Alien filters but do have a few made by others. I don't use them very often unless it is something that is complex and the plug in would just handle faster.

There are some great plug ins out there and many that are certainly great. I think the key is to use them judiciously.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I tried to reproduce the style in my original post and it was enough steps to feel bothersome. I could understand not wanting Alien Skin if your only experimenting with the vintage look and never use it again.

I just like how its able to emulate various film styles right off the bat. Then there's the fact that the program is made to tweak various filters, grain, IR and a curve tool that helps facilitate the ability to give a photo the old beatup look.
