Ahhh...PBR and loud unintelligible music...what could be better?

For this show I used what I call the "stop it down and go to town" method of concert photography (courtesy of one 580ex) due to the recent sale of my 5D, which left me with no fast lens wide enough for this venue. It's not my usual style as I don't like to cover up the ambient light so much, but I don't think I would have had much luck shooting this show at narrow apertures anyway.

Thanks for the comments. It was a fun show...well worth staying up late on a weeknight for. Of course, it was difficult to get anything but hair for the JR set though.
As for the Flying V...I don't know about James Hatfield...how about Albert King? ;)

What an odd looking venue ... everyone just standing there with separation of audience from band ... I like it. Reminds me of the Ghostriders' Tavern where I started my band shooting career! :-)

There is sort of a reason for that...well, there is about a 6" rise from the floor to the "stage". But there is a better reason ;)...Cola Freaks do this thing where they assault members of the audience, and JR is known (more in the past than recently) for kicking/punching people who get near/on his gear...so of course audience members try to push each other into his gear.
The guy in the hat in no. 4 and the girl on the right in no. 6 both took some abuse. Note, she is holding hands with her boyfriend in no. 8, I assume to avoid being shoved into the mic stand.
But yes...it is a very odd little venue. The walls used to be lined with taxidermy animal heads...now only one boar head remains.

These are great! The use of flash is ideal, and the expressions you've captured are excellent. Nice work!

Here's that youtube video. **** starts to go down around 1:10.
