I took this pic last saturday at Grand Central Terminal in NYC. It was my first time there and decided to take the typical tourist shot from the balcony. LOL

I like the shot, but im not sure if its to noisy or fine the way it is. I dont have any noise reduction programs on my laptop except for whatever CS3 uses which i've tried and dont really like.

Tell me what you guys think.

Can you guys also help me find a good free noise reduction program or plugin?

oh and i want to print this pic our or one of the other similar ones I took. Will the print look exactly like this without noise reduction if I did not resize it at all and printed it at the 54x36 inches it says in PS?

Can't really judge noise on small resized jpgs; need a larger version or 50-100% crop.

Noise doesn't look too bad in your resize. You really want to keep the details of the constellations in the ceiling, and noise-software may soften it up too much.

I see very little noise in this image. Because the image is already a bit soft noise reduction software will just make the image softer. I doubt if you will see any noise after printing.

It's been resized down... there is no way to tell how much noise is in the original. I've posted stuff here resized down that looked amazing, until you saw the original and couldn't help notice the amount of noise in the image. It was a live show and, for the particualr shot, some noise in the image added to the mood.

looks good to me, there doesn't seem to be any noise that might affect the image in a negative way.

thanks. i passed out right after responding earlier. Im going to upload all my images from that day to the computer tomorrow. The ones i took from the stairs (here) were kinda quick thinking. I may actually go back and do some more and think about the setup better. I do have a few from the balcony above my head. No tripod, so i was trying as hard as possible to have a decent shutter speed to avoid lens blue even at 8mm.

I also do not see any noise in the picture above, but as others have said, that may well be due to downsizing.

You may try the free Noiseware Community Edition. It's flexible enough if you aren't too picky about setting all the noise reduction parameters, but if I remember right, it doesn't work with (write to?) TIFF files, only JPG.

Ok i downloaded that noiseware program and like it. I did a 100% crop of the original image with no PP done. And then a 100% crop with the noiseware program. Aside from some of the lens shake from the very short shutter speed. I think in my mind it looks alot better. You guys tell me.

Unprocessed.

I am going to process this image and see how it turns out with some tweaking and then i'll post it later.
