as much as hdr is misapplied, overrated, and used on inappropriate compositions... i think hdr in these two photos come out nicely and I can see why it was done. bravo.

I like the first a lot... but it is not quite contrasty or sharp enough and the out of focus foreground is distracting to me.

I wouldn't change the second one

I'd like to see the second one as a non-HDR just for comparison's sake but I really like the contrast between what the sign says and the cracked ground beneath :p

I think that second pic takes a cliche shot and turns it into a very interesting photo - great job!

Oh, that sign shot is great! Gives a creepy, etheral feel. I think the rock one is good, too...like from a dreamscape...but I agree that the foreground is a bit distracting.

Still, excellent job on both. Both elicited an emotional response out of me, and that's what it's about, right?

I think I've already told you this, but I really like your work and the first two photos are no exception. The only thing I would change is to do some cropping on the bottom of the first...to me, the one blurred rock doesn't fit in with the rest of the relatively crisp image.

Keep it up the great HDR shots! Mind sharing the originals?

.over easy.

Great job. The second one (Subject Flooding) is a great shot and excellent hdr work. Nicely done.

Thanks all for the CC, I'll work on that foreground rock if possible on the first one (it was pretty windy up there and I think I shot this at 10mm (on a crop - hence the barrel blur)).

And for those who have asked for them, here are the originals :

Balancing Rock : http://mattmoore.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p1031258713-4.jpg (external link)

Subjective Flooding : http://mattmoore.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p1003803401-4.jpg (external link)

And HERE (external link) is my Big Bend trip gallery (non-HDR, just panos and various other shots).
