5D/BG-E4 shutter button problem

When this combo is installed, my shutter button on the camera and grip does not work at the half way point to focus and pause, it focuses and snaps immediately with no midway buffer. When I take the grip off, it works normally. Is this correct with this grip? I never had this happen with the BG-ED3 or BG-E2 grips.

Added: When grip installed and shut off, the Camera shutter button functions normally. I guess the grip is defective?

No, it's not correct. The buttons should work normally regardless to the status of the grip. Seems you may have a defective grip.

That sounds very strange. Give Canon a ring...

thanks guys, I'll try my buddies grip, to verify it is my grip and not the camera. Then take it in to Canon vs. exchange at Amazon. CanonUSA folks are excellent at our service branch here.
