More info | Oct 16, 2008 07:28 | #1 I have just got my flash/umbrella bracket to go on top of my stand and the hot shoe mount is made of aluminium. With my 580EX II in the mounting the pins are sitting on the aluminium.

It could screw up the electronics in the month's-rent-worth-of-strobe you have sitting up there if you don't. I'm not kidding about that.
