I upgraded 5D's firmaware to 1.1.1, the format works fine, and it does see all 16 gb, but the count of available shots still says around 330, in RAW+Jpeg.
Does anybody know why?
Thanks

Tiziano

maybe it's trying to display 1330 instead (at 12mb a shot it comes out to almost exactly the formatted capacity). Either way, with a 16gb card you'll get at least 1k RAW, so you shouldn't worry too much.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Thanks Basroil. I didn't think of that!
I hope you are right. I guess the only way to know is to take 300 shots and see.

What card do you have?
I have a 16gb Extreme III, and it works fine in my 5D.
With just RAW, I think I get around 900, so i don't think RAW+JPEG would be 1330.

Sorry... I shouldn't have gone to that party yesterday night. I did the test with the 8Gb card, and not with the 16 Gb one. Now I removed the card to check the brand, and noticed my mistake. I inserted the 16 Gb one, and, in Raw mode only, it says it has capacity for 913 shots. Still looks smaller then expected, but it's working.
Thanks
Tiziano

Why on earth are you using a 16GB card!!!

Cool, I might check it out, but I have no problems with mine so I don't want to update and risk anything. haha

Well a 16GB card does not have 16GB of free space. For example, when I put my 2GB cards on my PC with a card reader the space after formatting is between 1.86 - 1.92GB, depending on brand. This is because formatting uses space, and they set aside sectors for internal use. Just like a hard disk.

BTW, 1.92 was the sandisk and 1.86 where other brands, transend, RiData.
