SD1000 Lens Stuck, no power

I let my Dad borrow my SD1000 to take on an Alaskan Cruise, worked perfect for the cruise and my sisters wedding. He went to take a photo in San Diego when he got home and the camera died. The lens is stuck in the out position and the camera wont power on, I've charged the battery, tried to hook it up via USB hoping to get some power to it and nothing happens. Any idea on fixes? No warranty. I really like this camera, aside from it not working.

Time for a new cam? Hope not, cant afford a 5DII yet.

Do you have a second battery? Maybe the battery went out? The USB cable won't provide power to the camera if I am not mistaken.

I had the same thing happen to my A530. Unfortunatly it was going to cost $90 to fix from Canon and a Camera repair shop. I called Canon and they offered me upgrades. So either way its going to cost some bucks to fix or get a new camera. I sold mine As Is on Ebay and bought a new A590Is for $140.
