The first one. At least you can see their faces a little more clearly.
Beautiful landscape though.
Is that in Utah?

I like #1. Do you have a wide angle lens? You could get a lot closer and still get a good amount of background in the shot. Just a thought. Great scenery and beautiful family.

My question is- why is the background so desaturated? It all looks very surreal, not sure if you were going for that?

+1, the photo also seems a tad bit sharp.

the scenery is distracting from the actual portrait, there's no need to squeeze the world into 1 photograph. setup the camera closer and focus on the portrait instead of the lovely background-scenery (<-not so much helping in making this a 'portrait' photo).

keep it up though, the faces and pose look golden.

These are coming through flickr and are being compressed quite a bit it looks like. In the originals you can see the faces very clearly. As far as the background looking very desatuated, the whole picture has the same amount of saturation. The higher mountain part that looks desaturated is because of lack of vegetation in the higher elevations.
