Hi! First attempt at shooting the moon tonight... It was clear so hey why not. Pretty cold out and I don't have a tripod so I used my monopod and a SUV to lean against... They're both 100% crops, I think they turned out pretty good... could be better but good!

Both taken with Canon 70-200 F/4 with 1.4x Extender @ 280mm... Last one is my sister's baby girl with a nifty fifty. Thanks! Any advice to make the baby cuter? She wants to submit her for the Gap baby modeling contest...

Great shots of the moon. Your niece needs better lighting though... that's very yellow and clearly behind her, leaving her face with little contrast across it, and hence looking flat and 2-dimensional. Similarly, the poor light (i.e. perhaps high ISO? I haven't checked EXIF data) makes it look excessively grainy, though you've done well to get it not too motion-blurred. Just wait to that magic moment too, when there's the hint of a smile around the cheeky tongue, and you'll have a beauty. Cheers, Tony

Not sure what kind of post processing you did on the moon shot, but it looks like it could use some sharpening and some contrast. The shot of your niece as has already been stated really needs the color adjusted...your white balance is way off. If you shot that in RAW, that would be easy enough to fix (and you could touch up the lighting as well), otherwise you're going to have to play with it a bit.

All three shots look like a nice start, but they need to be finished properly.

Peace,
Jim

ahh I didn't even think of the white balance. I didn't do any type of post processing on the moon other than cropping. Thanks for the tips
