GorillaPod Zoom vs 1D

Will a GorillaPod Zoom be stong enough to support a 1D MKIII and 24-70L for basic applications? I just want for some panos.

It says 6.6lbs , I think the 1D and 24-70L are about 5lbs total so it SHOULD work.

I would guess it depends on what shutter speed your using. It definately wont be as sturdy as a full tripod.

Also im not sure how easy ( as i dont have one) it would be to turn the head without disturbing the legs. Ideally for a pano, you want the base point to be very steady in order to make the stiching process easier.

I wouldn't use it for panoramas; you'll get some shifting as you re-aim the camera. For single shots, used as a bean bag more than a tripod, it'll do OK.

the Gorillapod is pretty sturdy, but for panos, I prefer a good tripod and head. The Gorillapod will hold onto a multitude of things and is great as a walkaround tripod because of it's size and weight. On the otherhand, getting it into the exact position you want may take some patience, and then more patience if you want to reposition it.

But to answer your question, I have had no problem with it supporting my 40D with the 24-70. It says it can support the 70-200, but I've never tried. Yet

And yes, Jon, a beanbag is what I was thinking too. It's just a matter of finding one.

Wasn't suggesting you use a bean bag, just that using the Gorilla Zoom like one is what I've found works best. I've had an ungripped 20D/70-200 2.8 IS sitting on mine and it's stayed where I put it when treated that way.

wont be strong enough for a 1 series. I have one and used it on a xt without any issues. On a 40d it is ok but not very stable.

I found a cheap little $25 optec mini tripod that holds my 1D MK3 and 24-70L extremely well. It's perfect for my needs.
