Spec me a bag before my wife murders me

Hi all

I've steadily been increasing my photo kit over the past 2 years and basically have out-grown 2 bags....

My current bag is a Lowepro Slingshot 200AW ... i've kinda never really been 100% with the sling style but its been ok.... but my wife bought it me when i convinced her it would be great for ages .... that was 9 months ago

I've just upgraded flash and a lens and its getting to be a tight fit (i'm one of these people that likes most lenses with me)

I am thinking of a backpack style now....

Has to comfortably fit:
Canon 50D with Grip
Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS (attached to body usually)
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 28-135 IS
Canon 100mm 2.8 macro
Canon 580EX II flash
Plus table-top tripod, cables, mem cards and a few filters

What camera bag do people think would be a good fit with a little room to spare.

Check out the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW. Great backpack, very comfortable, should hold all that and a bit more no problem, and is around $150.

Domke F-2 will take that with room to grow.

I vote for the "Murder" then we can decide what size bag your wife needs to stuff you in !!

i have the tamrac expedtion 7x.. if you would like a photo of everything I have let me know. I can take one of the bag for you with all of my gear on it.. yes and I mean ALL including lighting...

I know it's not a backpack, but I gotta second the Domke. I might consider the F1x given how much your gear has grown - and most likely will continue to grow. I have fit a TON of gear in there.

lowepro computrekker AW plusII for me, big comfortable backpack with room for everything.

i have 2 bodies, 1 flash, 3 lenses, extra charger, rocket blower, cables/releases with room for more! i could easily fit 3 more flashes and a medium sized lens like a 17-40.

so far its got a gripped xti, tokina 12-24, 50 1.8, 430ex, 40d with 70-200 hood it either position, charger, blower, cables, and room for more

Are you actually planning on carrying all that stuff to every shoot you do?

Consider a bag in which to store it and then use one of your smaller bags for when you go out and shoot or a belt system for shooting from.

Most backpacks are a royal pain to shoot from. You see something you want to shoot, you have to take if off to get your stuff out, shoot, and then put it all back in and put it all back on your back - it's pain in the butt. That's why, if you get a backpack, get one big enough to hold all your stuff and then use it hold it all in the car trunk where you take the two lenses you will need and the body and transfer that to a belt system from which you shoot.

I started carrying Mountainsmith's Parallax pack this summer on my trip to the Caribbean for a week and a half... Great pack for taking all of my gear and still conformable enough to wear most of the day... Although gear does get heavy after a while...

My current gear packed:

Main compartment (access from back of the pack)
- Rebel XT body
- 4 lenses
- 10 lens filters
- external flash
- media hard drive
- video camera
- memory cards (rubberized sealed compartments)

Front compartments
- cables, chargers for camera, vid camera, and media drive, point-and-shoot camera, etc
- there is room for a packable jacket
- laptop compartment (too small for my 17" MacBook Pro, but the 15.4" should fit)
- cleaning kit

Other
- Tripod straps to the outside
- small removable pouch for memory cards but I dont use it
- rain fly attached to the pack but storable in an outside pocket
- pockets on the sides for water bottles

I did get caught in a storm with it... The rain fly is well worth having and kept the pack dry...

I also have a small LowePro bag that I can put my body and one lens into if I dont want to carry the big bag around...
