Interesting subject. If you did this in Photomatix, raise the light smoothing radio button otions up to five to get rid of the halos.

It has no halos, but then, look at all the detail you lost in the non HDR version. :)

Yes, it's possible. The Light Smoothing settings in the top half of the Tone mapping panel should be far tot he right, the last radio button. Start there, then do the other settings. When you have all those the way you want, then go back to Light Smoothing and try #4. You might get away with it.

You should also play with the Highlights Smoothing slider in the S/H tab. That will also affect halos in higher contrast areas.

Here are some settings files if you want to try them. Drag them into the Presets Folder in your Photomatix installation folder. Then you can load them in the Presets dropdown at the bottom of the Tone Mapping panel. Try different ones, and one might be what you need. :)

You can't find the folder the program installed into? You pretty much need to find that. :)

I was going to say, look for files with an .xmp extension, but I forgot, Mac's don't use file extensions either. Try making another HDR and when you get to the Tone Mapping panel and move some sliders around, drop down the Presets thing at the bottom and Save Settings. Give it a name and save them, then go look in the folders of your Photomatix installation and find that file you just saved. That's where the presets go. Not sure if mine will work for you though, maybe.
