Hi,
sorry for the rather common question.
My 20D has nearly 50000 shutter actuations, and this happened a month ago for the first time. Both photos in the sample are shot in M with light overcast - the exposures less than 5 seconds apart. Could the reason be a gradually failing shutter?

Sample:

Extra batteries / Rocket blower / Small tripod

Post the EXIF information for each file separately. That may help determine the problem.

That looks familiar! Our 20D has just had its third shutter installed, at 62,200 actuations. Oh, and the mirror assembly has had to be replaced, too.

It is likely that you could buy a low-use second-hand 20D for less than Canon's repair cost, or upgrade to a 30D for not much more now, or leap up to a 50D which will seem like

mhm
shutter isn't blocking the light causing a overexposed image(shutter failing). Replacement might be coming your way

Yeah, and of course the motion in the overexposed shot reveals hat the real exposure has been far longer than 1/1000s recorded in the exif.
