I use a Gitzo 1564L which is solid as a rock but its not light. It also extends to about 80 inches which mattered to me. It certainly would support your camera and long lens.

bogen 3231 with a 3229 head.

I like the quick release aspect of the 3229 head, the ability to easily tilt and adjust from horizontal to vertical format. The height adjusts easily and rapidly, so I can switch from standing to kneeling quickly.

The bogen also has "detachable legs", which gives you a sort of emergency tripod in really low-light situtations. When I bought this monopod, I thought I'd use the legs more often, but I don't think I've used the legs more than two or three times. It's still a nice option to have...just in case.

It adjusts from 29 1/4 inches to 66 3/4 inches.

I've owned my bogen for 20-plus years and it's proven indescructible...and I'm not easy on my equipment.

Amazon has the above set-up available for $128.85

The 300/4 is not very heavy so almost any monopod will do. If you are using the tripod collar (you should) you may not need a head on the monopod. I have not used one myself.

Hello

You have Manfroto 681B
Like said Gasrocks, I think you don't really need a monopod. the 300 is not heavy and can be use Handheld.

get a light, compact monopod. if it's light and compact you'll be more likely to carry it.

my monopod (benro MC-66n6) weighs .8 pounds and without head is 16.25" long. it easily supports my 1d mark III and 100-400L. i do use a kirk/manfrotto tilt head tho.

Thanks all for your info. I might be using other lenses on there in the future so I'm looking at the 681 B Kit from B&H. I think it will do just fine. Appreciate all your help. steve
