Hungry Egret! C&C please!

I know this is nothing special, just an Egret.. I am excited its the first pic ive been able to capture of a white subject in harsh light without blowing too much of the highlights... Seems to be tack sharp too.. C&C welcome!

Looks like the second one is a bit blown out!? How to meter these in harsh lighting!?

Some tough light but nice and sharp. Dial in some exposure compensation when shooting white subjects in full sun. For white birds I use -2/3 with my 5D. Try to meter on a mid tone, not a highlight and not a shadow. This way you'll split the difference between your darks and highlights. I would use evaluative metering. If you shoot in RAW you'll have more data that is salvageable in those highlights than you might think but of course once you've lost it completely there's no getting it back.
