I lost the lens hood (ET-83 II) for my 70-200 L lens today. I see Adorama has a "replacement" lens hood: http://www.adorama.com/CAET83B2.html (external link).

Does anyone know if this will be just like the one that came with the lens?

Not sure, but I've had good luck with third party hoods. Bought mine from www.dealextreme.com (external link) which had crazy low prices.

I like screw-in metal hoods. Get most of mine from Heavy Star on eBay.

The bayonet hoods on L lenses like the 70-200 are FAR SUPERIOR for mechanical protection than screw-in hoods. Why? It's because any impact forces to the bayonet hood mount are applied to the non-moving shell of the lens and not to any of the delicate mechanics of the zoom lens assembly as they would be with a screw-in hood.

That looks like an original Canon hood.

The Chinese ET-83 hoods are only about $12-20. They all say "For" Canon on the hood.
