This weekend's major rivalry in the "State of Hockey" was as titled above. The Huskies just didn't play offense.

Some of the colors look a bit cloudy and "off" in a couple pictures because they were taken through some really poor glass at the National Hockey Center in St Cloud, MN because the place was packed with no room, even for me, the school newspaper photographer.

I now also love Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.

Gopher Jay Barriball beat SCSU goalie Jase Weslosky glove side for the game winning goal Saturday night at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers swept the series with a 3-2 victory on Friday in St Cloud and a 2-1 victory at Mariucci.

National Hockey Center has poor glass...
Husky Brett Borgen watches the puck bounce past U of M goalie Alex Kangas Friday night. Upon review, referees called no goal because the puck first hit Borgen's glove.

A referee calls off the goal as Aaron Marvin begins to celebrate. The previous shot bounced off both goal posts, then left the net becoming one of two called off goals against the Huskies on the way to a 3-2 loss on Friday night at the National Hockey Center.

John Stoa's skate in the crease cost the Gophers a goal that would have resulted in a 3-1 lead Saturday night at Mariucci.

Nice set, good action, good white balance (except #6). What are the typical setting you use for the division 1 ring. Our High School rinks are like dungeons :(

1/500 @ f/2.8 and 1600. I could have actually used 1/640 or 1/800 but I like em bright.

It's the result of a major intrastate rivalry. Each player ended with players standing quite close, talking trash and generally just laughing.

The previous week, we played a team that looked like it was trying so hard to keep up that I don't think they had the energy to fight.

Corrected! Thanks for pointing that out. For some reason the ice behind the goal looked a bit red.

I just shot a mite's showcase tourney a week ago at Mariucci with the main lights off. I'd have loved having all of the lights on, but happy to shoot there from the bench. :D The shots turned out somewhat dark, but all in all fairly well considering the low light. Most were shot at 1000 ISO, but I got to keep my shutter relatively fast. I'd post some but I don't have any releases.

Why yes, I DO shoot people—and they pay me well for it.:D

I had the chance to cover both the boys and girls state hockey tournaments earlier this year.

XCEL at full light gave me 800 @ 1/500 with an f/4 or something very close to that.

Great timing on these shots (the puck going off LeBlanc's stick in number six and the puck buried in the net on number one especially)!

You've got Ryan Stoa in the fifth shot, by the way. ;)
