I completely realize that it's in no way "solid" stuff, but are these kind of kits a total waste of time, or if you are a complete amateur who will only use stuff like this to photograph your kids, and maybe their friends etc, does it work at all?

Anyone want to admit to having bought a deal like this, and tell me how it went?

I've never bought anything like this, but seeing as these are strobes, and not continuous lights, they're certainly a lot less useless than some of the other 'kits' out there.

Having said that, the lights aren't that powerful, and the modifiers will make you lose even more light, but I don't see how they wouldn't be sufficient for some home studio work.
