Thank you all for your kind words.
It all helps a lot.

It's very odd,. I am in my house alone for the first time in 17 years...

I'm not at all used to not having that Dog to talk at
... now I just look nuts talking to myself! :)

I lost mine at 16 too. All wonderful years of affection and loyalty. My condolences.

I feel for ya Jake, for I too have come home to that empty house and endured that lonely feeling. (wiping tears)

Awwww Jake! I am sorry for your loss. I know what it is like to lose a four legged family member. The fact that your family showed up with you at the vet speaks volumes about you, Roo, and your loved ones. Take homage in the fact that Roo was able to live a long and prosperous life with people, and animals, that she loved. Let the memories be good ones.

I'm sorry to hear of Roo's passing Jake. It's so hard to lose a friend and companion like that. All the best to you.

They always listen, but have their own head. They never tell your deepest secrets, no matter what you confess. They love unconditionally, weather we deserve it or not. They guard us, help us and live just for us. This passes the bone and goes straight to the soul.

From my wife and I deepest condolances for your loss.

Real sorry to hear it. I had a 14 year old german shepherd and a 19 year old cat who passed in February, hard to see them go but they left me great memories that will last forever.

I'm actually almost in tears reading this. I've lost two cats and two German Shepherds in the last 15 or so years, and it really does rip you apart. It always amazes me how some people can't comprehend how easily you get attached to pets or how difficult it can be when you lose them. 'It's only a cat/dog, get over it!'. In truth, they're so much more than that. They're a part of your life and it's amazingly difficult to accept their passing when suddenly they're no longer there. I guess you just have to try and look on the bright side. You obviously gave your companion a wonderful life and loved her immensely, and that's the single greatest thing you can ever do for your pet. She clearly had a good life. :)

My deepest sympathies are with you. May Roo Rest In Peace in canine heaven.

Paul

Jake,

Condolences. I have never met her but it sounds to me that you had a GREAT relationship with her and her sister.

They are in a better place now.

We have 3 cats in our household and almost lost one to kidney disease earlier this year. It tore us up to see her in such bad shape but fortunately she's a fighter and doing much better right now.

They really do become part of the family. Some people will never understand the importance of pets. I can't imagine coming home and not having them around!

Very sorry to hear about your loss. You had almost 17 years, that in itself is amazing, and what a life you provided for the dogs. This spring we put Josh our 11 year old GSD down because of cancer in his snout, we recently adopted a new hound but I still miss and think about Josh daily.

I am glad she brought you so much joy and happiness, Jake. Dogs are the most self-less, devoted companions known to man. We are blessed to have them, even if the while is short.

Jake,

Sorry to hear about Roo. I know the early/late conundrum all too well. My yellow lab, Katie, let me know just a few months ago that it was time. I still hear her footsteps in the house.

Be well.
