Guys,
I have just got back from my tour and I shot RAW from 40D. I need to know how should I convert them in DPP. I mean, should i convert in 8 Bit TIFF or 16 Bit TIFF; I have been converting the images from 5D and 20D in 8 bit previously.

If you want to do extensive editing - shifting of tonal values to lighter or darker, adjusting contrast, changing colors or their saturation - and if your editor supports 16 bit, convert to the high bit depth. If you will only do things that don't involve large tonal shifts - sharpening, noise reduction, cropping, cloning, etc. - 8 bit will be enough, because you will probably end up in 8 bit anyway, either when you save the image as a jpg for archiving or posting or when you print it. If, OTOH, your editor doesn't support 16 bit, do as much as you can in the RAW converter since it will be calculated to 14 bit accuracy. Elie / אלי
