So i need a bag that is going to fit a 40D gripped (BG-E2N), i want to be able to put the camera away in the bag and then be able to take it out again and be able to take portrait style photos without having to put on the grip in the middle of a city block. the other gear it has to fit is:

Main Gear:
Canon 28-135mm w/hood
Sigma 70-200mm w/hood
Canon 50mm w/hood
Canon430 EX w/stoffen diffuser

Misc stuff
Batteries - 4
CF Cards - 4(in wallet)
Battery chargers - 2

the key thing to me is that the bag is able to hold the 40D w/BG-E2N attached. Let me know what backpack you recommend.

thanks in advance,
Phillyguy

If you want a shoulder bag, the Crumpler 7MDH will be perfect. You can put your gripped camera in with either the 28-135 or 50mm on (hood reversed on the 28-135) and be ready to shoot.

6MDH should work as well if you don't want to go too large. Are you sure you want a shoulder bag? For daily stuff I'm thinking of getting the Kata T214. Should fit what ya want and it won't weigh on your shoulder.

Check the review area or "Show Me Your Camera Bag" thread yet?

Check out the Domke F-2 or F-4. You won't even have to take a backpack off. The F-4 will be a little mor4e compact. You could even fit it all in an F-3x if you put one of the lenses in an outside pocket.

Slingshot 300?

It's a shoulder bag (right shoulder).

I can store a 30D+grip attached to 70-200 f/2.8L IS. Swing bag to front and be ready to shoot in under 30 secs - probably faster if I dropped daughter instead of putting her down :)

Has compartments for size more lens + my 580EX II. Have plenty of compartments for me to store 4 more CF cards, 12 extra AA batteries, rocket blower, lens clean stuff, etc ...

My one "wish" or "complaint" is that I have not found a way to attach a monopod/tripod to backpack.

This is a HUGE bag.

that will make it a problem then because again i for got to mention that i am taking a medium sized tripod with me. i am not huge on the slingshot bag idea anyway cause i am going to be going all day with this stuff and dont want to end up like the humpback of notre dame.
but your feedback is very much appreciated. thanks

Another vote for the Domkes. I would look at the F3x. Might be a little tight but that bag holds a ton of stuff for its size.

Ok, I'm a goof, I missed that. Sorry. In a backpack I would look at the Kata line, they are my favorite, I use a R-103 when I travel, holds a ton and very comfortable. For what you list above the R-102 would do as would many of their other backpack models. This company makes bullet proof vests for the Israeli (sp?) Army, very sturdy stuff.

The Domkes aren't backpacks, but if your objective is to get at the camera in a hurry, I can't think you'd really want a bag you'd have to at least partially unsling in order to be able to reach your camera. And backpacks need to be closed tight when they're being carried.

40D Users Unite for a ?

So i am in need of a backpack, My major issue is that i want to be able to put a 40D in the pack with the BG-E2N grip attached. ohh and not have the bag explode or bulge with it in there. i want to spend about $150. so if you have a 40D with grip attached and have a backpack that you would recommend. post it.

thanks in advance

No grip, but I have the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW, and I can easily fit my 40D with my 100-400L mounted. The lens has the tripod mount, so I'm guessing if I stick the grip on the body, it would fit fine.

Why not head over to a camera shop (I got mine at Ritz at the KOP Mall) and give it a try. Or The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr, they should have a nice selection.
