I have from the 7th through the 16th to play. I am looking for route help. I've decided to do the Blue Mountain loop starting with the road to the South (great western highway?) heading West then coming back toward Sydney via Bells Line of Road. I'll then head north on Putty Road.

From here, I am lost.

I'd like to meet up with some other people who can tow me around for a few miles/kilometers and point me in the right direction(s). I can easily cover 400km in a day and would like to leave it at that to give me time to relax and make plenty of stops.

Otherwise, the only thing I care about is staying on paved roads.

Type of roads I like: Anything except long boring straights. I like beat up, rough roads too as long as they're paved.

Things I like: Waterfalls are always a plus, indigenous wildlife, bodies of water, beaches, beer, and women

I am big into photography so picturesque places are a must plus this trip will be published in a moto mag.

I'd like to be able to make Brisbane my half-way point.

Thanks in advance, Tommy

A general idea of how I want to do the trip. Arrows pointing in direction I'll be heading.

Between Gosford and Sydney I'd take the Old Pacific Highway - awesome rode for bikes, every weekend you see hundreds of the things hooning along it. Very curvy, beats the freeway any day. Hop off at the Gosford exit of the freeway and go out from there... A couple of cafes along it, too - Road Warrior's Cafe and.. hrm... I forget the name of the other one.

Right near Gosford there there's some picturesque falls at Somersby - the better ones take a little bit of getting to, iirc, so it might not be just a quick stop if you want to get down and see the better drops.

The red road in this cross-section? Yeah I would rather take all the side highway rather then the main one anyways...

Hey Tommy, I lived in the lismore/byron bay area for a good 20 years. If you'll be spending some time there let me know and I can point you in the directions of some nice places to see.

Actually, if you are wanting to head up to Tamworth and will be coming in from the Blueys down Bells line of road, then take the road up to Singleton.

I did that once in a car and nearly cooked my brakes chasing a Porsche Boxster it was such a fun road. I would take that over the Old Pacific highway to Gosford for the following reasons:
- Longer
- Windier
- Nicer forest
- Less traffic
- Not full of lunatic boy racers trying to be Valentino Rossi.
- Less cops.

I seriously loved the Old Pacific highway when I had a bike in Sydney. But on a sunny weekend it becomes a level in Grand Turismo with wannabe Superbike racers weaving in and out of Caravans, Sunday drivers and coppers.

North of Tamworth, I can't help you sorry.

Singleton (north end of putty rd) is a town of miners and army brats with an abundance of pubs if you like wild women....haha...I know a few of them.

My brother came back inland from Mt Isa and said the road was attrocious...then again they were in an old land criuser...bike is a bit more agile.

Tommy, That's my stomping ground. When you get here give us a holler and I'll show you around the area.

The red line is not the Old Hwy that the guys have been talking about. The road that they're on about is further south, it actually starts where the red line meets the freeway in the bottom LH corner and heads south to Hornsby.

Thanks so far. Yeah, I've so far heard rave reviews about Putty Road so I'll definitely ride that :)

Myself and a few of my closer friends have been known to go for the occasional "quiet country drive". The Putty Rd is without doubt one of our favorites.

Try this as a route from the Blue Mountains to Brisbane (external link)

Bells line of road, The Putty Rd, and Thunderbolts way all on one trip, it actually sounds that good I'm tempted to do it just to check it's as good as I think :)

An alternative route with even more twisties would be to turn from that route at Armidale and cross to the coast at Grafton, a road which has some great scenery, but would involve you doubling back on the far north coast of NSW on your return trip.

Looks like your proposed route follows the New England Highway. Someone else proposed that I ride the whole damn thing North :)

I am excited!!!

I am going to try and ride the race track if their isn't any events going on: Mount Panorama (I think) west of the Blue Mountains.

Actually I've done my best to try and avoid the New England Hwy where possible.
It's really pretty boring, and not at all challenging from a motoring perspective.

Mount Panorama is an amazing place, if you have the time and enjoy motorsport, going there just to reflect on how steep it is and the speeds done in anger is well worth it.
I do however recommend sticking to the speed limit whilst there, as a young bloke a couple of us opted not to one night. Having the flashing red n blue lights come on at the end of conrod straight when your only half way along and already doing 3 times the speed limit is extremely sobering. (not to mention expensive)
