Great blue heron by the River

Great blue heron by the River

Canon S2 IS

I was walking by the St. Lawrence River one late afternoon to try and capture some "long exposure water" shots. I wanted to get a better view closer to the water, so I plowed through long grass and came nose to beak with this tall guy. Well not that close, but about 10 feet apart. I guess I was more surprised than him  since he didn't even move! After initial shock, and not wanting to scare him (thus no tripod, and not too much setup) I stood very still and was able to get a few pics of him before he took off.
