Done my first shoot for some friends today. No money was exchanged or anything, but it felt like I was doing that kind of thing. Kids are so hard to predict in front of the camera, one minute they're staring right at you for the perfect shot, then they bugger-off as soon as you bring the camera up to your face. Managed to get some, though. Here's a couple. (10D + Tamron 28-75)

Gary.

nice try ben. first one is nice.
second is okay... next time, have the kid further away from the background, the shadow is harsh.

after that is fixed. you can work on shadows on your subjects face to give them more character.
have fun..

Yeah, I see that now. She was literally sitting on a bed sheet, on the floor and my wife pulled it up behind her.

How do you get side shadow when using just the built-in flash ?

Gary.

That's a tuffy, also using built-in flash will give you more than your fair share of red-eye because of the close proximity of the flash to your lens. Consider one of the speedlite flashes and use bounce flash, perhaps add an off-camera cable. You'll be amazed with what you can accomplish.

Nice, keep it up!
