Love the camera, just don't know why it does this so often. Clean contacts and all.

you need to send it to Canon. error 99 is a catch all error and can mean tons of different things. besides, i would be a bit suspicious of my camera if it gave me any errors daily and would not want to rely on it too much.

Yes. Well i have never had to take the battery out. Just a quick off/on clears it every time.

One a day!!! Yikes... Time for a visit to Canon I would say. That just does not sound right at all.

Well in august I started to get it randomly after the camera had not been used for a couple days at a time. It could be cleared but then after 1 or 2 days without use it came back.

I sent it to Canon to get it fixed. They fixed it but the first day of 21 in africa it died with permanent error 99. It has now been replaced.

As blonde said you need to send it in to Canon so it can get fixed (or replaced).

I have never gotten it and very thankful for that (knock on wood). Been using it for 6 months without incident, love my mkIII.

Is it still within the warranty period? If so, there is no cost.

My first mark III (from the very first batch made back in June 07) gave me Err99 if I didn't use it for a while. Then it got worse and worse until it would lock up if the shutter hadn't been tripped within the last FIVE MINUTES. So during a shoot or while driving to locations I'd have an assistant constantly firing frames off to keep it working. I didn't want to send it to canon because I didn't want to be without it, and I only had about 5 shoots left.

Eventually, on the way to my last shoot of the season, the Err99 was permanent and never took a picture again. Canon replaced it with a new one, as they couldn't fix it. (Only after holding it hostage for two months)

My second mark III had no Err99 (55X serial number blue dot), but it only lasted 1500 shots before the electronics totally died. Wouldn't turn on or anything. total paperweight.

My third so far has been great (57X serial number) after about 10,000 shots. One Err 01 once but other than that it's been perfect. I think canon finally has figured it out.

On a related note, my 1Ds mark III has been absolutely flawless. It's so funny, considering both cameras are based on the same chassis and stuff, the 1Ds3 complaints are very few and far between, aside from the odd viewfinder misalignment problem. That is the only reason I got the 1Ds3, purely for reliability's sake.

My 1Ds mark III is giving me an err 99 and the on/off is not clearing it. Took the battery out and its still not clearing it. I can get 1 shot off (between the on/off) but it is chopping off the top of my picture. GGGGGRRRRRR....I don't want to be without it for 2 months! I could use my 20D but its just not the same. Any idea on what caused it?
