I like the colors, and the fact that not all leaves in the foreground are in focus, doesn't detract from the photograph, IMO. It's a very artistic photo to begin with and in art not all 'rules' are followed. I like the crisp edge to separate the leaves from the background. Gripped XSi . Canon 18-135 IS

Croasdail making stuff up More info | Oct 24, 2008 13:54 | #8 man, my eyes must be failing me, because I don't see the same crisp edges you do. I see some contrast lines, but areas that are in focus, I think the DOF is just way too shallow. With the foreground so close, and the background so far away, you could have easily stopped down a tad to get more leaves super crisp. But as it is, there is just so much of this shot that is out of focus (at this size), it really strains my eyes to look at it. I love the concept, the colors, the angle and all.... but there is no clear subject, and what there is is so thin, it doesn't come together for me. Really close, but not quit.

Yes I agree, this photo doesn't follow the rule of thirds. The horizon line isn't even at a 1/3 mark and the out of focus reds should be at the upper 1/3 point which means cropping out half or most of the blue area.

BillBoehme Enjoy being spanked More info | I am still undecided -- I like the colors and patterns, but the image as a whole doesn't quite grab my attention the way that I think that it could. I am not sure if it is that so much of the image is OOF or the super saturated colors which on my wide gamut monitor sort of nuke my eyeballs. Atmospheric haze in images?
